Thousands of players have played in the NHL and almost all of them are good so it's hard to pick the best. Not including goalies and non-active players, these are my Top Five Hockey Players in the NHL.
5. Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby was born in 1987 in Halifax, Canada. He is the Pittsburgh Penguins overall best center and captain. He also is captain for team Canada. Crosby is not my favorite player but his 1.41 points per game is close to the top in the NHL. I don't like him at all but he deserves a spot on any Hockey Top Five list because of his quick hands and fast feet.
4. Zach Parise
Zach Parise was born in Minneapolis in 1984 and is the assistant captain for the Minnesota Wild and captain for team U.S.A. Zach Parise is one of Minnesota's best forwards but is better known for his leadership skills. After the 2014 Olympics he was named captain of tournament all star team. One of my favorite players in the league, fourth place easily goes to Parise.
3. Zdeno Chara
Zdeno Chára was born in Czechoslovakia in 1977 and is the captain of the Boston Bruins. At 6 ft 9 in, Chára is the tallest player to ever play professional hockey. My favorite defense and hardest shooter in the league, #3 goes to Chára.
2. Pavel Datsyuk
Pavel Datsyuk was born in Russia in 1978 and is the assistant captain for the Detroit Red Wings and team Russia. Pavel Datsyuk is known as the best in the NHL for stick handling and scoring. Some achievements/awards that Datsyuk has won are two Stanley Cup wins in '02 and '08 for the Detroit Red Wings and the Most Difficult to Play Against in 2012. Best center of all time, Datsyuk takes #2.
1. Alexander Ovechkin
Alexander Ovechkin was born in Moscow, Russia in 1985 and is the captain of the Washington Capitals and team Russia. Ovechkin is known as one of the hardest shooters, fastest skaters and hardest workers in the NHL even though he can barely speak English. Some achievements/awards that Ovechkin has won are three NHL player of the years, one most valuable player and he is the only player in NHL history to be named to the NHL First All-Star Team in each of his first five seasons playing. My favorite player in the NHL, Alexander Ovechkin takes first place in my Top Five Hockey Players.
