6th grade advice

In 6th grade I find it helpful to study for tests, keeping organized and turning everything in on time is very helpful. I will attempt to help you succeed at doing these.

Studying for tests: In 6th grade tests are longer and harder, but studying really helps. In social studies I think it helps to take notes on what the tests will be about because most social studies tests are open note tests. Then in english tests you will have to learn to memorize words and their meaning. Each english tests there is about 15-20 words you have to memorize. I personally think that going over the words and what they mean over and over.

Keeping organized: You should always keep organized because you can lose papers and not get points. Keeping organized is a big part of turning everything in on time. Knowing where everything is and where to find it at all times is really important. I do admit I haven’t been very organized this year, but then i realized how important staying organized really is.

Turning everything in on time: No matter how big the project or how fun something else is you HAVE to turn things in on time. If you turn something in late you will still get points but not all of them.  This kinda brings me back to keeping organized. Even if you finish the assignment you have to know how to get it to your teacher. There is always a way to turn it in, so no excuses work.

All three of these things will probably help you get through 6th grade, but I’m not making any promises.

The book I read was Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hard Luck

Diary of a  Wimpy Kid Hard Luck is about Greg trying to pass 8th grade with a “Magic 8-Ball”. The “Magic 8-Ball” is a plastic toy thats supposedly answers yes or no questions. Like for instance Greg asks the 8-ball if his friend Rowley should break up with his girlfriend and the 8-ball says “ It is certain”.
So Greg is really annoyed at Rowley because he doesn’t spend any time with Greg but with his Girlfriend Abigail. Like Greg asked Rowley to come over and play a game and Rowley says “I can’t I’m busy”. To conclude this is my book review.

1)  Keep organized and try not to lose your binders or Ipads.
2)  Pay attention to the teacher at all times since there is so much to learn you might miss something.
3)  Utilize your the calendar to your best ability because it sure helped me when I forgot something.
4)  Use your time wisely, too since the more organized you are, the more time you get to play.
5)  Have fun! 6th grade was a blast and was not as intimidating as I thought it would be.

6th Graders

Future 6th graders:

You do a lot of stuff in sixth grade. The classes are the same but there are a lot of new things you do in each  class. In science this year we did water testing which only a few schools in the state do and usually they do it in high school. You also do a lot of hands on work in science. You also take German so it's fun to learn a new language. But a lot of times it gets hard but in the end it gets pretty easy. In math, try to get in the quote book. The math teacher says that six graders say the funniest things. And you should be in band.  I was in choir this year and I didn't like it. But if you want to do it go ahead. Other than that 6th is the same as 5th.

Good luck.

Sincerely,

Christian Hill A.K.A. Flappy Walru

Some Advice

Some Advice

To all the upcoming 6th graders I'm going to tell you about how 6th grade works. First don't worry in the beginning of the year you have almost no homework. And when you get homework it is super easy (it's like what you learned in the middle of the year). However, later in the year the homework gets really hard, but what's good about it is that we probably still have less homework than you.

You also get iPad minis so make sure they are charged because after the day they will be very drained of battery. At the beginning of the day if it's at 100%, by the end of the day it will be at about 40% - 50% unless you conserve battery. Ask for help too since there will always be a teacher in the room. If you need any assistance just ask a teacher.

Recipe for Success

Advice for Future Sixth Graders

Future sixth graders, I want to start off by saying that sixth grade isn't as hard as people might tell you. I thought that sixth grade was going to be hard, yes you will run into some problems but it's not that hard.
What you need to focus on the next year is keeping on track. Do your homework when you get homework done when you get home. Since I had hockey and soccer I had to get my work done, and most of the times I tried to get work done after I had a game or practice so I was too tired.
Also keep your things organized. At the middle of the year I organized my cubby and I think you should too.
The main thing that you will find useful in sixth grade is having respect and gaining respect. I guarantee if you do your work and don't make excuses for not doing your work you will gain respect from others, especially teachers.
Again, sixth grade isn't that hard if you do what you are supposed to and follow rules.

Sixth Grade: The Guide By Julien

Future sixth graders, this last year has been very fun. (I hope)
But as you move on to a new year( which obviously is next year), to be the new sixth grade class. I am going to tell you some pointers and highlights that you should follow and certainly look follow to In the next short (Or long) year.

The science projects in Mr DJ's class are spectacular in a way that is educating, but a whole bucket of fun. For Example: we made mini hovercrafts and pushed them around. This is one thing you should try to enjoy, because all of Mr DJ's projects are so, so fun.

Mr KJ's English is something to look forward to everyday. He reads out loud books that are terrific, and are always a "Please read more!!". Mr KJ will defiantly teach you everything  you need to know about English, from odes to personal narratives,
you will enjoy it all.

The field trips are a great way to relax out of school and enjoy education somewhere else. Most of the field trips will be for science and sometimes you have to take notes.

There may be a time when you forget about some homework or get a grade you don't care for in a class. Don't fret. Most teachers will allow you to redo homework or tests.

Of course this is not all of the fun things you can do in the, sixth grade, but overall I think you shouldn't be worried about next year, but should be(hopefully) excited about the upcoming year.

Surviving 6th

Choosing the Right Path

Sixth grade can be easy or hard but it is up to you to decide that. When you go to Riverwatch Congress when the person asks someone to come up try to be the first one because the winner gets 5 dollars. Do not be worried about the amount of homework it is not as much as you probably will except. Watch careful from a distance the wild yoga balls look very calm but not be fooled by its appearance they are a fierce buckers kicking you off whenever they get the chance. Building a sugar cube pyramid was really fun in Social Studies. The science projects that will blow your mind! To conclude sixth grade is not that
hard as you probably think.

Things You'll Need to Know to Survive 6th Grade

You get a lot more homework.
-You're going to have to balance your time between homework and enjoyment activities. You should also use any available class time you have to finish your homework.

   You'll get iPad minis.
-They're easier to fit into your binder and your backpack, but they're also easy to drop and break. That will cause A LOT of trouble! (I'd be one to know!)

   Responsibilities
- Speaking of iPad minis, you'll get to take them home! But, they're a BIG responsibility. If they break once you'll be given a warning.  However, if it's the second or third time, you'll have to pay for a new one, so BE CAREFUL!!!

   Partner Projects
-There'll be a whole lot of social studies partner projects, (okay, two or three), so you're going to need to make friends whenever you get the chance so you'll end up with at least one person you know.

How to Deal with 6th Grade

  •

How to make a school year feel like a week

Dear 5th Grade,
Make sure you stay ahead on school work or you will fall way behind.  I think your education is what you make of it. Make the most of your experience. In addition, do not get discouraged. "I am only one,but I am still one, I can't do everything, but I can do somthing." -Helen Keller. The quote I just said from Hellen Keller makes me feel confident and encouraged. Finally, when you run the mile, pace yourself and then sprint in the final stretch and you'll be sure to set a PR (personal record).
                         Sincerely,
                               Carter S.

Take it from me

Take it from me

Hello sixth graders to be. I am Collin and I will be telling you what you will be looking forward to when going into sixth grade. First, one of the best things that will happen is that you will be able to have iPads all year and you will be able to take them home. Second, there will be a lot more projects in all classes. My personal favorite was the IMovie book group project where you read a book and then make an iMovie about it. You will also be introduced to a whole new team of teachers. They teach you lots of new information. The biggest thing that I think happened to me this year is that I learned a lot more stereotypical topics like Algebra, formulas, how atoms work, how an electromagnet works, and many more. You also will be able to do band but you will need to be good or Mr. A will yell at you. One of the most fun things you will be able to do this year is that you will be to go down to the creek and test the water for many this like turbidity, flow ,D.O, plus others. I hope that this has helped you look forward to the sixth grade.

A Summer away, by Christian hi

A Summer Away

Some things you need to know about sixth grade are that you'll be able to join band and you'll have new and great teachers. Be sure to only use your iPad when necessary. It can get you in trouble or taken away. REMEMBER to charge your iPad every night. You will need it for the next day and you don't want a dead battery. A tip you should follow is use classroom homework time well because you will need it on some days. You will not have a crazy amount of homework but you will have enough where if you do a sport or any other after school activities that you will be up late to get it done. One thing I thought was fun was the River Watch Congress field trip. We did not have that many field trips this year, but one thing to remember is take good notes on the field trip because they could be helpful during the year.

6 grade craziness

6th grade is really fun if you keep up on your homework. Some things to look forward to is German and a ton of skiing. Also you get to go skating with your class. Be ready for a lot of projects in science. You will need rubber boots when you go down to the creek. The two field trips you go on are Riverquest and River Watch. You get to do a lot of things with water. Lastly, the play is also fun for those who like acting.

Sixth Grade Advice

I view sixth grade as kind of that year when you start that long journey of discovering your style and personality. I kinda jumped on and off the style train. I went from hippie to hot topic in a record time of about one month. You've probably seen my emo hair or heard my boot buckles clinking down the hall, but I'm not actually that scary. I like bands and tv and painting my nails just like the next person, just what I do is a little different. The person next to you might love Pretty Little Liars, but not for even one second should you think that you need to change yourself just to be their definition of "popular" or "cool" or "pretty". You've probably heard that whole "we're all beautiful on the inside" talk, but the truth is, not all of us are. There are some really nasty people out there that think it's fun just to bring other people down.

Be patient and understanding, but don't let anyone push you around or take advantage of you. Also, the definition of "cool" does NOT mean you need to wear makeup and buy clothes at Abercrombie and Fitch and Aeropostale. I spent most of sixth grade in band t-shirts and jeans and honestly, those girls who giggle in high pitched voices and gossip about shopping and boys are repulsive. I'm perfectly fine with my bands and fictional characters, thank you very much! So what if I play video games and listen to loud music instead of wearing skirts and going to the mall? Does that make them any better than me? No! Absolutely not. But if shopping and boys is your fancy, I don't go up to you and tell you so. Well actually I do but that doesn't mean that you should. Bad example, sorry. Anyways, point is to be yourself. Stay yourself but find yourself, be you. Enjoy being a kid while you can because once it's gone it's gone. Good Luck!

6th Grade Year

I enjoyed many things this year! One of those things was math class. I've never really liked math class but this year it was super fun! I loved hands on equations, DE and even Aleks could be enjoyable. Another thing I enjoyed this year was English class.
All the writing projects were awesome and the read alouds were always interesting. The musical was super fun because it was a time when the whole grade was together and we got a lot of free time! All the projects in every subject were great! I loved skiing! And in English class the book groups and IMovie project were awesome! Going to Brewery Creek for science class was always fun and nice cause it was like taking a break from the school day! Overall there are a lot of things to look forward to in 6th grade!

Are You Ready For It?

You should be excited to move up to 6th grade. One extremely fun activity that we did in 6th grade was a musical. Some advice on the musical is: try your hardest and you will do fine. Do not be afraid to do what you are not used to. Another fun activity we did was going to River Quest. At River Quest we were able to learn about estuaries, fish, invasive species, and much more. Plus, we were able to ride on the Vista Star as we were learning. Now some advice for sixth grade: study for all your tests and work hard on your projects. Do not forget to do your homework and always work hard.

The 6th Grade

   By : Gaelen
In the 6th grade you get to go down to Brewery Creek to do water testing. My advice is to not goof around and if you don't goof around that will be your favorite thing in science. The iPad minis are really fun to use. You might get more homework but it isn't that hard in certain subjects. There will be projects in German and other classes and they are really fun.
The Oliver Twist play was really fun to do and putting it on for your parents is is also fun and that was my favorite part of the year. In English Mr. KJ will read a book in the beginning of class and they are really good books.
Science is the best subject because you do a lot of awesome things, like building boats and roller coasters.  If you are going to do band you will have a good time. But you must play the Barton because it is the instrument I play.  Plus, t is easy and fun to play and has a nice sound.

You Don't Say

You Don't Say
An advice column for future 6th graders

There are a lot of things that are pretty obviously bad ideas, but I'm going to list them all because everyone does them. Whatever you do, don't do these things.

Try to hack the iPad profiles
When you first get your iPads, the first instinct is to inspect it. This is not a bad thing, but as soon as you find the profiles under settings, it turns bad. Immediately, you type in a random 4 number PIN (usually your lunch number) and fail. It does not have disasterous consequences, but you may be approached by Mrs. Houle and told not to- in which case you start to hyperventilating and freak out as soon as she asks to talk to you. Nothing bad happens, but it is better to just leave the profiles alone.

      2. Procrastinate
I'm sure almost everyone has already done this at some point, but just don't. You get bad grades, a bad reputation, and it makes you look lazy. Finish yer homework!!

      3. Cheat
There is now an honor code in play, but people will still cheat. You don't need to be one of them. Cheating, while it may seem silver-lined, it never turns out well. You will be caught, severely punished, and lose all the points on whatever you cheated on. Just don't do it.

Death By Education

If you want to survive the sixth grade here are some tips you will need to know if you don't want to die by education.
1. Come prepared.  Be prepared with all the materials you need for class or your life will be ruined.
2. Do whatever it takes to get into Mrs.Kiero's quote book.
3. Don't stress to much about a bad grade or a late assignment.
4. Be patient with homework and take your time. Sometimes teachers minds can go kaboom along with yours.take time to figure things out

Success For Sixth Grade

By: Carissa
Even though sixth grade is diffucult, it is a lot of fun! But make sure you can balance your work and your outside of school activities.
     1. Don't procrastinate! Especially if you play lots of sports! It's easy to procrastinate but it's better to get work done, ASAP.
     2. Be organized. That is really important! Always write homework assignments in your planner, don't lose things and just keep your locker and cubby organized. Don't have things you don't need.
     3. Keep up with not only school but friends too. Even if you have a lot of work, take a break and hang out with your friends! It's sure to make sixth grade even better!
     4. Participate in things. Participate in not only sports but clubs and things with your friends! If you do a musical participate because it's so much fun!
      5. Have fun! Though sixth grade is tough sometimes, it's extremely fun! Make sure you enjoy sixth grade with all the great opportunities you get! If something good is sent your way, take it!

How to Try and Survive Sixth Grade

How to Survive 6th Grade
Sixth grade is a really tough year. But here are some tips that will help you out. 1.) stay organized. You really need to stay organized. It makes life so much easier. My suggestion is to clean your locker and cubby at least once every few months. The easier to find things the less time you have to stress out over it. 2.) Study a lot! Some people don't have to study and some people just don't study but it's good to develop good academic habits. It will help you for the rest of your time in school. 3.) Don't worry so much if you're new. I was new this year so I know how hard it can be to switch schools. But I didn't just move schools, I moved states. So I know how hard it is to make friends when you know no one. You have to find friends that you can really trust. And also if you're  new don't worry about knowing all the rules and stuff since  it will all come together. I hope this advice helps you for 6th grade. Good luck!

6th Grade Advice

Incoming 6th Graders:

In sixth grade there is more homework but there are still field trips, but most of them include learning things about rivers. We also did a musical called Oliver Twist. Just a hint: if you don't want to sing or act a lot, you should try to get a smaller role, like set design.
In English you will have a read aloud and no spelling tests! If you have Mr. KJ for English you get to sit on "round chairs".
There are so many more things that I won't add because if I added them all, this list would be almost infinet, but I know you all will do fine.

Good Luck in 6th Grade,

Make the Most of Your Year by Hanna W.

Some people think sixth grade is hard, but I don't. There are many things you have to do to keep sixth grade fun. Sixth grade helps prepare you for the rest of your career in school. If you stick to this advice, you will have great success in sixth grade.

Homework: To have success in sixth grade you have to DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Some days there will be a lot of homework, and others there won't be any. As long as you use your time wisely, and plan it right, getting your homework done shouldn't be a problem. Make sure your homework is done on time and don't procrastinate!

Tests: We don't get a lot of big tests, but we do have quite a few small quizzes. If you take good notes, and/or use your resources to study you will have a great chance at acing the test. We have a lot of smal vocabulary and spelling quizzes in English, but as long as you study those should be really easy. The only time we have big tests is in social studies, and those are usually open note tests.

iPads: These iPads are pretty easy to get used to. The only thing is, you have to be careful with them when you take them home. Make sure you always charge your iPad, every day! Be careful with siblings around, because bad things can happen if they get your iPad. After a little while, you get used to bringing iPads home and it soon becomes a routine.

Brewery Creek: Going to test water in Brewery Creek is not always the most fun thing to do. Sometimes it's cold, or raining, or even snowing. It is fun to learn the processes of testing water with different methods. Sometimes the weather conditions make testing water miserable. Make sure you have warm clothes in the winter, and rain boots in the spring, you will need them.

Teachers and Classes: The sixth grade teachers are really understanding and nice. In English with Mr.  KJ, you will read a lot and write a lot of fun pieces. In math with Mrs. Kiero, it is enjoyable learning about the different math skills. My favorite activity is Hands On Equations; it's a lot of fun. Science with Mr. DJ is a lot of fun because we do a lot of fun projects. In German with Frau Grover, you will learn a lot of German words and phrases.

Your year will be the best it can be if you try your hardest to follow my advice. If you really try, you could have the best year ever! The classes are fun, teachers are nice, and technology makes life simpler. You shouldn't be afraid of sixth grade because you will do just fine. My advice could help you a lot during your sixth grade year.

Helpful advice for 6th grade

If you are worried about 6th grade, don't be because the teachers are really nice. For example, Mr. KJ is a really nice English teacher who loves biking, running, reading, and teaching. Mr. KJ may seem a little strict but, he is nice like candy.

Another nice teacher is Mrs. Kiero who loves minions, math, and cribbage. If you are good at cribbage Mrs. Kiero is the challenge to beat. And if you also like minions, show Mrs. Kiero your best minion picture and she might give you something.

A great sience teacher is Mr. DJ. It's really easy to mix up Mr. KJ and Mr. DJ. But Mr. DJ is a fun, enthusiastic, and a hard working teacher. To conclude, this is why 6th grade is really fun.

Sixth grade advice

Three Words of Advice for 6th Grade

  • ●  Have a lot of friends. If you have a lot of friends, you will most likely be in their class.

  • ●  Don't procrastinate. When you have homework due in two days, get it done. You might get a lot tomorrow.

  • ●  Practice your instrument for music. It helps.

A Whole New Year

Guess what fifth graders!? Sixth grade is going to be lots of fun. In sixth grade we go to a trip on the Vista. We learn about estuaries and hypothermia. Here's the fun part, you get to start band and you get to be in a play. If you're lucky enough you can do Oliver Twist and be Mr. Brownlow like me. In sixth grade you get IPad minis! How fun is that? You also get to take it home. I know that's exciting. You guys will fly by sixth grade really fast. The year will go fast but will be a lot of fun.

You also don't have to be worried about getting left back because if you have the same teachers I did, you'll learn everything amazingly fast. Remember the creek by Mr. Dj's house? Well, you get to go down there. We test water and submit our results to Riverwatch. Don't worry. You'll go there in sixth grade. There are also prizes in sixth grade. If you write an amazing essay for Riverwatch, you get gift cards, three water bottles and a bunch of other prizes.

Now you probably want to know how to ace sixth grade. Easy! All you have to do is pay attention in class and do extra credit. Especially in math or science. Those are the easiest grades to fall behind on. At least for me.

Now that you know everything about sixth grade, I hope you have a nice year and follow my advice.

How to Ace the Grade

Don't be on cocaine (IPad) during Mr. KJ's class.

"Cocaine" is kind of an inside joke you will get to know well being in Mr. KJ's class. When you are in his class you should be listening and not on your cocaine (IPad) because if you are he will find you and when he does it's not looking good for your iPad. He calls it "cocaine" because it, for some people, can be addicting. In conclusion listen, don't play games in class.

Don't ask how to spell a word with an iPad in your hands.

If you ever find yourself sitting in a class wondering, how do I spell a word? The first thing you should do is see if you have an iPad in your hands turn it on and look it up and don't turn and ask the student sitting next to you. You should look it up on your iPad it will probably save you time and then you will never forget again.

Study

Studying is probably the most important thing that you should do in 6th grade. By studying you can set yourself up better to succeed in 6th grade. Also by studying you can do better on tests and you won't be stressed when taking the test. Then, by doing that you will get all A's in 6th grade.

6th grade advice. It helps.

Random 5th grader,

I am here to help you through 6th grade with some advice. Ok, first I will tell you about the homework situation. There is not nearly as much homework as 5th grade. However you have to get it in on time or else it is a 50% or 0%. Next I will tell you about the IPads. During class (unless told) you can not use them. At the start of the year you set them up which is difficult but try to pay as much attention as possible (I didn't and it made things hard). What you also need to know is to study for tests. The tests can be very hard if you don't study or pay attention. One thing that is key in 6th grade is your behavior. You can not fool around or else you'll get busted. Horseplay is not tolerated (especially in science because it can be dangerous). One last piece of advice is to do your best. Don't slack ir get bad grades because it will come back to bite you.
That's all!

Kiel

A Summer Away

A Summer Away
Sixth Grade is only a summer away so here are highlights and also some tips...

Tip one: Never and I mean never try to sneak your cocaine into Mr. K.J's class because you won't get away with it. Don't freak, Mr. KJ calls the iPad cocaine.

Highlight: We all got to experience acting in a play. It's a tradition for the sixth graders to act in a play that the seniors did when they were in sixth grade.

Tip two: You will get an iPad mini that you can take home. My advice is to find an outlet in your room to place your charger where you will never forget it and always charge your iPad mini overnight.

Highlight: You can celebrate a new holiday that you might not even know existed. That holiday of course is Pi day! Pi day is full of pie, party, and extra credit that is amazingly easy and fun!!!

Tip three: Your new gym teacher Mr. Schoer has a pet peeve that is not to be dealt with. That pet peeve is bad manners and sometimes he'll take back what he gives if you don't say thank you!

Highlight: We get to watch a news channel called CNN Student News that is ten minutes long and asks different questions. They say shoutout or roll call and they ask you a question and you can yell out the answer!

Dear future 6th graders, sixth grade is nothing like you have been told. First some teachers say they are preparing you for 6th grade by being harsh. Well they are completely over exaggerating it. Also, you get pretty much the same amount of homework but it's just harder. Along with that if you play sports this homework may be harder to handle. Lastely there are a lot more fun progects and groupings. As you can see 6th grade is hard but it's nothing you can't handle.

A prison? Or a field of daisies? You decide

If you don't finish your work ontime and turn your work in late it only counts as fifty percent and those kill. Even worse zero's destroy your grade if you don't turn it in at all! If you're having trouble ask a teacher because they will most likely help you! Don't use exclimation points! They! Are! Bad! For! Your! Grade!! If you study, and pay attention you'll be good unless you're Henry  juuuust kidding but seriously. Respect the teachers especially Mr. Kj since he has a nasty left hook

A Day In The Life of Your Sixth Grade Future

A Day In the Life of Your Sixth Grade Future

As you find yourself transitioning into sixth grade, first thing you need to know is: you'll survive. You may think you won't, but you will. Another thing is: have a good attitude. Sixth grade is gonna come and go. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take it seriously.Your homework load is going to get slightly heavier, but not too bad. Here are some tips:

In science, if you have Mr. DJ; enjoy the roller coaster project. Seriously. It might be the most fun project of the whole year. For you own good, always have rain boots. Always. In math, always, always redo homework and tests that you aren't happy with. This might be the only time a teacher will let you do it. (I know I'm saying always a lot, but I need to get the point across.) Bring a notebook, too. You'll need it. English class has exercise balls (round chairs). I know, fun, yeah, but they will ruin friendships. It's like the Hunger Games. Either get there early, or stick with chairs. The only day of the whole year I got around chair, was the first day of school. Choose wisely.

Good 'ole social studies. Except you're going to have homework almost everyday. My pointers for you are: bring tons of lined paper, and study. For. Tests. Seriously. Sixth grade really isn't that bad. Actually, thinking about it, it was pretty easy. Still, try hard. Also, use your planner. Don't just think, "Oh, I'll just look at the calendar." Write it down. Teachers forget, and so do you. I can't tell you how many times I have had a friend forget homework because they didn't write it down, and the teacher forgot to put it on the calendar. Planners will save your life, as you probably know.

I'm making this sound worse than it is, but it's better to be relieved than disappointed. So enjoy sixth grade, and try your hardest.

6th Grader, Soon to Be

                6th grader, soon to be
                 Here's some advice from me,
Where you are going, change will be,
                 Abundant, please believe in me
Your world will be crammed to the top,
Of German, a musical, shall I stop?
                 Your agenda will also contain
Writing, And in science, a plane
Some things to hold onto the same,
Gym, Art, Music, playing a game,
Friends, New, Old, and Just quite weird
Will keep you up and spritely, cheered
So don't stay awake at night
Dreaming of next year, 'time of fright!'
                 It is really quite okay
Don't fret about first sixth grade day,
Though the ipad minis may be new
And taking them home might be too,
Friends and teachers will help you
And someday you'll be writing this to-
The next year of 6th graders soon to be.

Things to Know About 6th Grade by Zoe Johnson

-First of all, homework. It's not as hard as you would think it's going to be. It's not a lot, even. Just take a breath and do that fifteen to twenty-five minutes of homework!
-Second. Be organized! Take time in your school day and clean out your cubby or locker.
-Third is be prepared. Don't forget anything and try not to lose pencils. Losing pencils will be your worst nightmare!
-This kind of touches on the third one but never forget to bring boots and a jacket when it's raining or snowing! I promise you that if you forget it, it will be the death of you! You go down to the creek a lot during the rain or snow.

We kinda got all the negative stuff out of the way, so let's get to the positive things.

-You get to go down to Brewery Creek! It's amazing and super pretty. You get to be around a lot of nature when your with Mr. DJ.
-You get to be in band! Another opportunity to find what you really like.
-Field trips, lots of mini field trips. You get to go down to the lake and ride on a boat! You get to go to River Watch!
-You get a couple projects this year and they are really fun to do.
-Have fun! Be excited to go into sixth grade. It is a great year.

The Grade To Age

Accept responsibility for your life.
Know that it is you who will get where
You want to go, no one else.
Because you cannot escape the
Responsibility of tomorrow by
Evading it today.
Accept the homework and
Learn from it. Know that it
Is you who will succeed,
No one else.
Because you cannot escape
School tomorrow by
Evading it today.
You are only responsible for
What you say, not what you understand.
You are responsible for your life,
You can't keep blaming somebody else
For your dysfunction.
Life is really about moving on.
Because the price of greatness
Is responsibility.

Anti-Awry Advice

1.  Do not get used to a certain amount of homework: the amount fluctuates daily.

2. Use a planner or check the homework calendar. It's easy for something to slip your mind.

3. Musicals and large group projects may be a sheep in wolf's clothing--but only if you have prepared for a wolf. If you haven't prepared, it will be a wolf.

4. No good comes out of fighting over round chairs in Mr. KJs class.

5. Pay attention in class and don't use your iPad. No amount of teaching by classmates can replace a teachers' teachings.

So You Want to be a Pro ?

This is an extreme sport, it takes years and years of training and experience. Some are born with that fire in their eye, others have to earn it.  The following list points out the best places to nap.

1. Bed
A traditional, comfy, clean place. Elevated from  the floor you can put your body into the silky smooth warm habitat. A king or queen size is about right for me not too soft but not too stiff. So I ask myself, do I like MY bed? (just watch out for bed bugs, predator number 3 of the sleeping world). If you want to go pro start with a bed.

2. Sectional
Ah the wide open spaces, the rolling butt grooves, the the lush blankets. I am talking about my sectional,  a place of freedom and peace. You can watch tv while you plunge into a nap, read that book that I want to read to act classy, eat and go into a food coma. An excellent place for experienced sleepers.

3. Floor
SDS: stop, drop, and sleep. The floor is a novice sleepers playground - simple and convenient, yes but sorta clean. In my house it's fine, but at the mall or that really comfortable corner at Barnes & Noble it's quite dirty. So be warned, even though it is fast, it is also grubby.

4. The Lawn
Feel like going natural, then try the lawn, a nice and natural sleeping environment. Just don’t sleep outside in the winter since you may get cold. The grass provides a furry carpet and the sun is your heat lamp.

5. School
Even for pro sleepers school is a challenge since prowling teachers are constantly looking for any chance to embarrass you. School is a great place  to catch up on Zzz's, just beware of teachers. ESPECIALLY DON’T FALL ASLEEP IN MR. KJ’S CLASS.

My Top Five Amazing People!

I watch these people represent a different personality in a whole new way. I view these women with admiration and respect. They are astounding and I take them as role models.

1.         Jennifer Lawrence is in my top five list because her acting in The Hunger Games and Catching Fire was very intriguing. The way she made me believe that she was actually a survivor of a fight to the death.
2.         Anne Hathaway is in my top five list because her performance in Les Miserables was phenomenal. The way that she made me believe that she had to work really hard to earn money and that she was really poor was fantastic.
3.         Angelina Jolie is in my top five list because in her movie Tomb Raider, she did an amazing job. Her ability to wield a gun and be able to do a lot of stunts, sometimes without a stuntwoman, was incredible.
4.         Emma Stone is in my top five list because in her epic falling scene in The Amazing Spider-Man was very believable. Her intense moments were so powerful that it made me believe that that character was real.
5.         Chloe Bennet is in my top five list because she is great in AGENTS OF S.H.E.I.L.D. This woman’s acting as a hacker and a spy makes you really think that she can do these abilities. Her “in-pain” scene is fantastic and her acting is fabulous.

Everybody has their opinion about a lot of things, especially actresses. This is just my opinion. These actresses have been in my mind since the very beginning, they were in my top five list for a reason. The reason is that they are great.

Dancing to the top by Daria Q.

Dancing to the Top

Dancing is something one can do forever. The day I stop dancing, is the day watermelon stops tasting good.  These are the dance moves that have grabbed my heart!

1.    The Firebird Leap. It’s my number one because I have always wanted to do a Fire Bird, haven't I? No. But that's ok because I just love the dance move! In order to perfect the move, do a scorpion and add a leap!  I love to do scorpions, a flexible move where your leg curls backwards towards your head.

2.   The Fish Flop. The reason why it's number two is because I like to do the splits. (If you know me, you should know that.) In the Fish Flop you are doing the splits, just in a backwards summersault.

3.  The Russian. I don’t amazingly like the Russian, but I also really do love it, that’s why it’s not my number one! I really love to do the splits, that’s why most of the things I have as my top five favorite dance moves involve doing the splits. The Russian is doing the middle splits except you just jump right into it, so it's really fun!

4.  Side Leap. The Side Leap is a Russian, just in a leap version. You will do two low runs, and then after your second run, you will give yourself a big push and leap into the air like a Russian.  Then land and turn around and do it again! I didn’t put it before the Russian, because the Side Leap isn’t as fun as the Russian.

5.   Punch Leap. The Punch Leap, isn’t that fun, but you do the splits in it. (It's a leap- all leaps are splits). Instead of doing a normal Leap, I did Punch Leap because, when you Leap, you will punch your arms down! So it’s more fun for me.

Those are the dance moves that have grabbed my heart. Have they grabbed yours?

Top 5 Fails or Awesome Things Done by Me

I am Henry Nelson and this is my top five fails/awesome things done by me. Some may too intense for some kids. Just kidding, but seriously it’s intense!  You know that moment when you fail or succeed? You've got try to figure out which one is a fail or a success. Sometimes it's both.  I will share a variety of both.

5) I got betted to jump a garbage can so number five isssssss when I tried to jump a garbage can, and I tripped over it rolling down a hill going mach twenty landing on my face. Then I hit a innocent kid his ice cream fell on my lap.

4) When I was in a football game and I tried to tackle a player so I dropped my shoulder for a big hit but he just destroyed me and I landed in a puddle.

3) My next attempt took place at the couch. I was sitting at the couch minding my own business but my chunky older brother  wanted the remote when I was using it! So me and my brother boxed for it. Then I got a black eye.

2) When I was playing hockey a kid shot it for a championship game winner in over time and it ricocheted off my left pad he then shot again and I saved it with my stick flailing in the air.

1) The best fail ever is when I tried to prank my brother with dye in the shampoo on April fools day. We were in a prank war but I used it instead of him. But I lost the war by a whopping twenty two points.

That was my top 5 list hope you enjoyed leave a comment in the description in the area below.

Five Winter Adventures

Always bored in the winter with nothing to do? Are you thinking the snow is terrible? Well if you so, try some of these activities and they will give you something fun and exciting to do and not just sit inside.
Downhill Skiing:
Imagine going 50 Miles an hour down the fastest hill. Going up at a birds eye view to start the journey all over again. Racing left to right, to pick up speed. You can go as slow, or as fast as you want down across Spirit Mountain.
   Snowboarding:
Slipping in through the slopes on an angle. Taking a crash into the ice cold snow bank to halt to a stop. Feels like you could be on a balance beam and could topple over at any moment. So easy to do it, it's like trying to ride a bike.
   Cross Country Skiing:
Snow drifts to the sides and in the middle, gliding through the snow. It's as easy as walking on ground. Feeling fast? Go at your own pace. Gliding through the trails and all you have to do is watch and walk. Snow attaching to the plastic long shoes and beginning to be unsteady.
Sledding:
Slipping on the icy snow as you crash into a snowbank. Not having control. Stand up and hold on, hoping something good will come out of it, when really you will just take a crash. Sitting down and clutching the handles and getting to the bottom of the hill. Walking back up and starting all over again.
Snowshoeing:
Stomping through the deep snow as if you are Bigfoot. Snow clutching to the strange wooden shoes. Hopping along and hearing the thump echoing. But in site, trees in the dark woods.

Park Place

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride on a cable car or ski in 76 degree weather where there is no snow in sight? So many different airports,so many different planes,so many places to travel, so many different airplane pretzels and crackers to eat. The following are places I have enjoyed the most.

1.  Boston
I loved Boston because of so many things. One of the things was the historical value that was there. An example is that we saw Paul Rever's grave. Another thing is the fresh seafood like Lobster and Clam Chowder.

2. San Francisco
Another place that I loved was San Francisco because of the seafood at Fishermans Wharf also the fresh made Ghirardelli chocolate. Alcatraz was really fun but also scary because I was only 7 and the Muir Woods the trees were Huge! Also riding the cable cars and seeing the world’s curviest road.

3. Washington D.C
The best part of the trip was seeing the Smithsonian museum with many different and cool exhibits including the Spirit of Saint Louis. Also monuments like the Lincoln Memorial,Jefferson Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, and the White House. Another was going to Ford's theater.

4. Seattle
I have thing to say do not walk through Seattle at midnight it does not give you a welcome feel. Going to the top of the Space Needle was pretty amazing and going to the fish market because of the throwing of the fish . Also having one of the best doughnuts in my life at Top Pot donuts.

5. Utah
Utah was amazing the one that I thought was the most was Arches National park the Arches were amazing because of how old they are also watching the US men's national soccer team play.I also learned that Utah is nothing like the MN in the Summer like when your cars temperature is 106. Also I went to the Utah winter Olympic park is was cool to see people ski in 76 degree weather and see people bobsled in 76 weather also.

To conclude there are many places to travel so many places to be hope you enjoyed the places i have  been.

Top Green Bay Packers

Forrest Gregg, Jim Taylor, Don Hutson, and Reggie White. What do these guys all have in common? They're all ledgends Packer history.

History of the Packers: The Packers  have won a total of 13 championships, including four Super Bowsl, which is more than any other American professional football team.  The Packers are also the only team ever to win three strate NFL titles, which they did twice (1929–1931 and 1965–67).

So now that you have learned a little about the Packers you can read about some of the players which led the packers to their success.

Offensive tackle: Forrest Greg
Forrest Greg was apart of the Packers all-time team. He was selected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994. He won five titles under Lombardi.

Running back: Jim Taylor
When he retired he was the NFL’s 2nd tall-time leading rusher. He set a Packera record and he led the league in rushing yards with 1,474 yards in 1962 and 90 touchdowns. This was the only that anyone was “beat out” Jim Brown.

Coach: Vince Lombardi
When Vince Lombardi was coaching the Packers won five NFL championships. Including the first two Super Bowls. Lombardi’s team was 89-29-4.

Wide receiver: Don Hutson
Don Hutson was the first great pass receiver. Hutson was the best wide receiver in the NFL before Jerry Rice. In 1945 he retires as the NFL’s all time leader in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

Quarterback: Bart Starr
9-1 in the post season. He had the Packers "on top" five times. He was also on the all-time team.

Defensive lineman: Reggie White
White was one of the best defensive lineman in the NFL. He had 68.5 sacks and legendary plays. He was in his thirtys for his six season with the Packers.

My Favorite Literature Pieces by Brandon J.

I love to read. Reading is my favorite thing to do. I have read eighty-four books this school year and I have many more yet to read. I have wrote about my five most favorite books. Here they are:

1:  The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan
I like learning about the Egyptian gods. The Serpent's Shadow has true information about them and has helped me learn more about them. The Serpent's Shadow has been one of my favorites since my grandparents got it for me on my birthday. There are monsters to stop and Apophis is rising.

2: Firestar's Quest by Erin Hunter
I like Firestar's Quest because there are TONS of felis catus - cats!
There are cats fighting and training other cats. Cats have to figure out what mysterious visions mean and then travel for miles to find a lost Clan and help cats’ spirits.

3: Stealing Air by Trent Reedy
Airplanes. Giant pig balloons. A secret workshop. Plane crashes. A poop-bombing. A very smart kid makes a flyable plastic airplane from stuff he stole and it gets wrecked often and they have to fix it a lot.  All these events happen because Brian's dad's company relocates it's headquarters to Iowa.

4: The Chocolate Touch by Patrick S. Catling
Everything that passes through or touches his lips turns to chocolate. A silver dollar. A metal fork. A trumpet. Then his mom. All becuse of his love for chocolate.

5: Ark Angel by Anthony Horowitz
A British  space hotel being made, four billion pounds (British money) over budget.
The owner wants it gone. He wants his name erased from criminal acts. A nuclear bomb. He want to blow up the Pentagon. Who wins?

Out of the eighty-four books I have read this school year, these are my favorite. I think you should read them because maybe you would enjoy them too.

Europa Avventure By Molly S.

Have you ever dreamed of floating on a gondola on the Piave River?  Or climbing the Eiffel Tower? Well I have, so I decided to make my list of top five places to visit in Europe.

1) My number one attraction to visit in Europe is definitely the Eiffel Tower. The reason why I think the Eiffel Tower is the best place to visit, is because it is located in France; a very famous country. Another reason, is that the Eiffel Tower sparkles and shimmers like fireworks in the dark, starry night. The final reason, is that amazing views of Paris can be seen as you walk farther up the tower.

2) Tick, tock goes Ben the clock; another must see in Europe. Big Ben is located in London, and it helps visitors and citizens alike to travel from A to B.  If its hands aren't  enough, then the sound that it makes on the hour ring out. If its hands and sound are not enough, then its height will definitely be seen as it is the second tallest structure in Europe.

3) This one is very unique. It is the Ukraine Independence Square, in Kyiv. It is different because in the Square there is a water fountain that " spills" over steps for many feet to enjoy. Also, it has beautiful domed Cathedral buildings that shimmer in the sunlight. (or at least it use to.)  Is soccer your passion? Well, just down the street, is the stadium where Ukraine held the 2012 World Cup soccer series.

4) Venice is a very gorgeous city. It is a magical place to visit because the long Piave River runs through it. Twisting and turning down the river, float the gondalas that show the magnificent views. When laying in a gondala on the Piave River, while looking up, it seems that the tall and historical buildings are giants hovering over me.

5) Last but not least, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I would want to visit here because it is actually a bell tower, and I would like to know if the bell is what caused the tower to lean. Also, I would like to know its architectural features, such as where each brick was placed and why. The final reason, is that it is a tower that looks like a stack of dice leaning to the point of tumbling.

So in conclusion, I would love to visit any of the places above, but if I was given the chance to visit two, I would go to the Independence Square in Kyiv, Ukraine,  and of course, the Eiffel Tower.

Saves of Glory

Most Minnesotans / Wisconsinites know about the NHL but not many people know all the players and it gets even harder when you're talking about the goalies. This is a list of the best 5 NHL hockey goalies playing today.

5. Martin Brodeur a 6'2" 216 lb 41 year old goalie for the New Jersey Devels has 622 GP which means points for a goalie. He also has 3 goals in his NHL career. He is one of the only goailes who has scored a goal.

4. Henrik lundqvist a New York Ranger's goalie and the goalie for the Swedish international team with 568 GP in his career. Even though Brodeur has more points lundqvist is the goalie for Sweden. The average GP is the high 500s to 600s.

3. Pekka Rinne is a 6'5" goal for the Finnish international team and for the Nashville Predators in the NHL. He has also played for the Milwaukee admirals in the AHL. His GP is 317 and that is just his NHL career not for Finland.

2. Tuukka Rask the goalie for the Boston Bruins who brought the team to the playoffs every year he was a goalie with them. He is 6'2" and 185 lbs he was born March 10, 1987 in Tapere Finland. He brought the Bruins to the #1 seed in the NHL this year and they also just had a 9 game winning streak.

1. Jonathan Quick the goalie for the LA Kings and is put in the third seed in the Western Conference. He played for the Manchester Monarchs and the university of Massachusetts-H-east. He is ranked first in his GP,SO,L and PIM in the playoffs.

One of Brodeur's 3 goals

Deaf Ears Aren’t Good For You... By: Margo A

Have you ever listened to a song on the radio, and thought I lost count on how many times this song has played? If you listen to a station (not pointing fingers or anything…) that repeatedly plays a song *cough* 102.5 *cough* you will understand what I am feeling when you experience these symptoms, deaf ears, speaking louder when the song comes on, plastering a fake smile on your face and nodding your head. You know it!

What Does The Fox Say
Ylvis

I don't have a clue what the fox says and I don't want to know. It honestly makes my ears wilt. Maybe they should have looked into the farming business instead of a musical career.

Gangum Style
Psy

Maybe it is the repetitive noise or the yelling, but I think it is the dance. When people try to the dance to the music it makes me want to puke. It looks like they are trying to pull your pants up but somehow got electrocuted in the process.

Diamonds
Rihanna

In the beginning of this tale about diamonds I decided that this song was okay. The tune was catchy and I could jam to it. Then, after the first week I wondered why it was still playing. Unfortunately I listen to one radio station that decided that it was the best song of all time. Eventually I learned to dislike the song. I think that diamonds shouldn’t be in the sky...

Baby
Justin Bieber

Even the mention of that song makes me cringe. Hearing it is probably the worst, and even more terrible is seeing people like it. It is a girl (sorry, boy) repeating a call for love. Something tells me he didn’t get what he wanted.

Firework
Katy Perry

Honestly it is the tune that got to me. It was so catchy that I found myself singing it everywhere. It obviously got annoying so whenever it plays, -may it be on the radio or pandora- I promptly change the station. I will inform you that babies aren’t fireworks.

I hope my list was intriguing and made you smile. I'm sure you can relate to me when I talk about these songs.

Top 5 Out-Of-The-Park Bynames by: Matthew E

Top 5 Out-Of-The-Park Bynames
As they step up the crowd shouts out his nickname
"Big Papi, Big Papi."
That is just one of the very popular nicknames in the game of baseball. Almost every player has a nickname but to me these are some of the more famous nicknames of all time.

Ozzie Smith "Wizard of Oz" Ozzie Smith played shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres from 1978 to 1996. He was a very good baseball player that is most known for his backflip when he ran on the field. And he got his nickname in 1985 when the said they to Oz from his name and he was magical and shortstop.

Lance Berkman "Fat Elvis" Lance Berkman was a very good 1st baseman for the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and St. Louis Cardinals from 1997-2013 and just recently retired. He played some outfield for a couple of years but found his best self playing first base. He was one of the best home run hitters of Houston Astro history.

David Ortiz “Big Papi” David Ortiz has probably the most popular name in all of baseball. He is a 1st basemen for the Boston Red Sox and has been called that all of his career. They call him “Big Papi” because he is Mexican and Papi is Mexican for dad so in english it means”Big Dad.”

George Herman Ruth “The Bambino Babe” Babe Ruth is one of the best baseball players of all time. He started his career with the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher. When he was traded to the Yankees and he became a first basemen and went on to become one of the best. When George was born he became an orphan around 3.

Kevin Youkilis “Youk” Kevin Youkilis is a 3rd basemen for the New York Yankees and very well known as “Youk” as the crowd shouts it out when we walks out. He has spent his whole career with Boston  Red Sox and New York Yankees. He still plays in the MLB.

In conclusion, my favorite baseball nickname is probably "Big Papi" because of how all baseball fans know his nickname and the crowd cheers his name really loudly. All though he is my favorite player these other players deserve credit for making a name in the league for themselves.
